We need an iphone application ! LOL

Actually, as i talked with Dario, every customer ask my installers/resellers to be able to get the surveillance via their smartphone. As the Iphone is the most expanded smartphone, it could be very useful for the business to get an application or to be able to run the web server with Safari - I know that we use an ActiveX which is not supported. Be sure that in front of another competitor, if he provides an iphone access, and not me, he will win the deal 90% of times.

Developing applications for iPhone is a little difficult, but we do intend to develop it. We have no expertize in developing app for iPhone so it may take some time until our developers learn a new platform

Digifort Mobile is a JAVA application. How hard is it to make a version of Digifort Mobile that will run through normal web browsers such as Safari, Mozilla, etc.

Doesnt have to be as feature packed as surveillance client, but at least to view live.

Dario,

I need to check, because Digifort Mobile is actually JAVA ME, and it is slight different from the normal JAVA implementation, I need to check with the developer

But we want to make an iPhone app, I have already included to our developing tasks

Java - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPhone_SDK#iPhone_SDK

Apple has not announced any plans to enable Java to run on the iPhone. Sun Microsystems announced plans to release a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) for iPhone OS, based on the Java Platform, Micro Edition version of Java. This would enable Java applications to run on iPhone and iPod Touch.[45]

Soon after the announcement, developers familiar with the SDK's terms of agreement believed that by not allowing 3rd-party applications to run in the background (answer a phone call and still run the application, for example),[46] allowing an application to download code from another source, or allowing an application to interact with a 3rd-party application (Safari with JVM, for example), could hinder development of the JVM without Apple's cooperation[47].

It is clear that Java running on the iPhone is outside the bounds of the iPhone SDK Agreement. The guideline in question is rule 3.3.2, which reads:

3.3.2 — An Application may not itself install or launch other executable code by any means, including without limitation through the use of a plug-in architecture, calling other frameworks, other APIs or otherwise. No interpreted code may be downloaded or used in an Application except for code that is interpreted and run by Apple’s Documented APIs and built-in interpreter(s).

However, some iPhone users have shown that it was possible to install and use a J2ME stack on an iPhone, though it involved jailbreaking[48][49].

It has also been revealed that there were talks between Sun and Apple concerning the availability of Java on the iPhone, and that Sun was working in that intent with a company called Innaworks[50][51]. Since it is required that all ARM9 or later processors include Jazelle support, the iPhone includes the hardware for accelerated Java execution.[52].

Hacking and jailbreaking

Main article: Jailbreak (iPhone OS)

The iPhone OS has been subject to a variety of different hacks for a variety of reasons, centered around adding functionality not supported by Apple.

With the advent of iPhone OS 2.0, the focus of the jailbreaking community has shifted somewhat. Prior to iPhone 2.0's release, jailbreaking was the only way to allow third-party applications on the device. Now with iPhone 2.0, native applications are allowed under Apple's SDK terms, although certain functionality is disallowed on the device. These disallowed functions include background processes, and the ability to alter the applications written for the device by Apple. Some began attempts to disable Apple's kill switch,[59] although these efforts were largely abandoned once the kill switch was proven to only disable Core Location.[citation needed]

There has been a notable shift away from jailbreaking with the new App Store's debut, in most part due to users' acceptance of Apple's compromise on opening up the platform[citation needed], although there has still been substantial interest from the jailbreaking community, especially with the release of Pwnage Tool from the "iPhone Dev Team" which was released soon after firmware 2.0 for the iPod Touch and iPhone. Some jailbreakers also attempt to pirate paid App Store applications; this new focus has caused some strife within the jailbreaking community.

The other major focus of jailbreaking since 2.0 has been to reverse the SIM Lock that is forced onto most iPhones. The first generation iPhone can be fully unlocked with the iPhone Dev Team's BootNeuter application, and the iPhone 3G can be unlocked with a new beta effort dubbed "yellowsn0w"[60] later to become ultrasn0w to work on newer baseband as Apple patched the baseband by release 2.2.1 and QuickPwn 2.2.1.

More recently, many efforts have been focused on broadening the Bluetooth capabilities of the iPhone. However, many of the efforts stopped due to the preview of the iPhone 3.0 OS on March 17, 2009, which included among other features, enhanced Bluetooth capabilities.

Within days of the official release of OS 3.0, updated instructions and applications to jailbreak and unlock 3G iPhones running the new OS were released by the iPhone Dev Team[61].

The iPhone Dev Team stated that the exploits that allowed a jailbreak of the iPod Touch 2G and an unlock of the iPhone 3G will respectively allow the same capabilities on the iPhone 3GS[62].

On July 3, 2009 geohot released purplera1n[63], an application to jailbreak an iPhone 3GS running OS 3.0. The iPhone Dev Team subsequently released updated versions of the redsn0w jailbreak and ultrasn0w unlock for the iPhone 3GS[64].

The iPhone Development Team released an update to their PwnageTool program on October 2, 2009, to enable the jailbreaking of OS 3.1 on the iPhone 3GS.

On October 11, 2009, GeoHot (George Hotz) released blackra1n which enabled users to jailbreak firmware versions of up to 3.1.2, among all other iDevices, the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3rd Generation (untethered support). blackra1n supports iPhone 3GS which has 3.1.2 installed out-of-the-box. blackra1n currently does not support jailbreaking with the 3.1.3 firmware[65] [2]

We plan to make a Digifort Mobile for iPhone, with native programming, but it will just take some months to be ready, since the developer of mobile is a little busy with other jobs here

I would like to see if we can add support for Digifort in our mobile phone cctv software Total Control which includes iphone/itouch/ipad as well as android, blackberry, and winmo also however i need a cgi api.  Dario if you have such can you PM me the information as well as remote access to a Digifort server so we can test.  I see some of the urls for the snaps and ptz commands but really would like the official http api documentation and something to test against.  Thank You.

ok i found the http api doc.  is there a mjpg server push url or just jpg snaps?

is there a hardcoded naming convention for camera names to call jpg video?  can i just use camera1, camera2, camera3, etc. all the time for api purposes without having to query server for names?

also i need access to a digifort server to test.  is there a demo server online by chance?

Hi,

I would also like to inform you that we are already developing the MJPEG streaming from the server. Today you can grab snapshots but next week (In a new beta that we can send you) you will be able to get JPEG stream, and set resolution, quality, frame rate...

On the API document you can get the camera list, it is not hard coded

We have finished the JPEG streaming from the server
Can you also decode MPEG-4 or H.264 on your application?
As soon as we upload another beta version and update the API documentation I will send you a PM

you have PM again.  the demo you gave is tested and working in our iphone/itouch/ipad app.  tested on blackberry also.  will test android and winmo later on and post back.  3 things to note

1. the first image tends to always give data not ready error 6 and then i get the rest from there.  this is on initial connection attempt.  not sure if this is an issue with the demo given or something else.  won't know until the app is tested against other digifort servers also but it happens in pc browser also not just our app.

2. was not able to test ptz controls as i don't know which are ptz to control on the demo given.  the code looks fine though.

3. We only support hard coded camera names so we use the names given from the demo; 01,02,03,04,05,etc.  people will need to use these names in Digifort to be compatible with our app if they want to use it.

the only phone type we support mpg4 or h264 on is blackberry and there are very specific requirements almost to the point you would rather go back to jpg.  mjpg is actually the preferred method across all phone types.  when you get the mjpg url implemented let me know and i will add support for it.  for jpg on the demo and cellular on my iphone and blackberry i was getting about 1 to 1/3 fps.

Hi

Thank you very much for the efforts on this

1. You are right, on snapshots, the first image (and maybe second, third) always tend to return Data Not Ready, error 6, as documented on API. When using MJPEG stream that we have developed on a new Beta this will not ocurrs, since you will receive a stream of JPEGs on a Multipart x-mixed-replace connection

2. We can test PTZ controls over here

3. Ok, I understand. You use this way because your software was tailored based on the IP Cameras and Video server interfaces, just like Digifort. In this case, we will try to create a parameter for Camera Number that you can use, and you can specify the number to use, I will keep you updated

How can we test your product on iPhone? Probably we will have to buy it on App Store right?

To see the app, you will have to watch the video via their web site or buy their app in the AppStore.

Iphone youtube video showing Total Control with a Digifort Server.

Some Notes:
  • camera names in Digifort must be 01,02,03,04,05,etc. for it to work in our app
  • uses new mjpg stream that Digifort just added.  If it can't find mjpg it will look for jpg refresh method.
  • if you use jpg refresh method the 1st image comes through corrupt usually from the Digifort server.  you will need to tap the screen a 2nd time to get rid of error or slide back out to main camera list and back in again to get rid of error as this makes the app grab from 2nd image on in the stream which conforms properly.  this error does not happen on mjpg stream.
  • ptz controls are supported as shown towards the middle of the video
  • jpg snapshots are supported and saved to local photo gallery
  • for cellular we grab a video size of 480x320.  on wifi we use whatever default resolution you have the digifort server (or that camera in digifort) setup to.
  • we will add support for 64 cameras in our application.  application can be found on Apple App Store.  just search 'Total Control'.  App versions run by how many camera feeds you want to support.  We have Multicam1,4,8,16,32,64.  If for some reason you need more than 64 cameras please contact us.
  • We handle all support for our mobile apps directly.  If you have an issue with the Total Control app and your Digifort server please contact us first to assist.
  • Our app works with iphone, itouch, and ipad.  For ipad it is not an ipad specific app.  Just use the scaling function built into the ipad.
  • Compatible with os3 & above only (i.e. os3-os4 is current Apple ios version).  Apple EOL os2 or older in sdk so no support for the older ios anymore.

Customer purchased your app, but can not connect to obtain images.
I attempted myself, and was not successful. Kept asking for username & password repeatedly.

I already tried to contact you via this forum & your website several days ago, but no response.

Sorry for the delay everyone.  As Proem France pointed out we were closed until the 16th.  i have just checked on my iphone the demo given to me from Dario which is the same shown in the video above and it works fine on my iphone right now so it sounds like there is some troubleshooting involved for this case to be resolved.

here are some basics:

  • no http:// in ip or url.
  • no url (we just put that because of limited space).  it really means domain name.
  • so just input the ip or domain name.  no http:// or full url
  • port goes in port field only
  • user/pass are case sensitive
  • toggle save username/password button below password area to 'on' otherwise you will be prompted to login manually every time you try to connect.  this button will save your user/pass so you don't have to type it in every time you connect.
  • make sure you have the newest make/model list.  to do this go to the make screen and click the blue circle button on top right.  when prompted if you want to check for newest list click yes.  when the list is checked you will be shown a response of updated or no need to update.  after you click ok on this if you get an error like -1001 that means it did not connect to get the list so try it again.  if you don't get any error then you have the newest list.  so now go  to Digifort again and select the channel you want for this camera.  for instance start with channel 01 and save it.
  • you manually add all of the channels into our app for the first time setup.  we copy all previous camera information so after you add the first channel and save it then all you have to do is click the + button on top right of main screen to add the next camera, change the descriptive name (i.e. front door to back door), and change the channel to the new channel you want for this particular camera (i.e. click make Digifort model channel 02 this time) and save.  repeat for all of your channels for 1 time setup.  takes about 5 minutes to do say 64 channels.

I did the following;
  • No HTTP:// in the URL (I used IP Address only)
  • Port 8601
  • Toggled Save Username/password to ON
  • Camera names are 01,02,03 etc on the Digifort server

But it still repeatedly asked for username and password.Ermm

What i didnt do; (since it is a customers iPhone, not mine)
  • Check for updates - i will definitely check this when i see the customer again.

Yes it is, due to the security show in Sydney, most of the equipment is being used at the show.

The demo room will be back up and running mid next week.

Sorry for inconvenience.
